As a barbershop owner I am consistently contacted by sales people from different companies who want to send me samples, hoping I will ultimately purchase their products to sell and use in our shop.
Throughout the years I have tried and tested many different products, ranging from pomades, shampoos and colognes to razors, blades and various other accessories.
Many products I have liked, and many I have not; however, I always consult with my staff for their feedback (just because I don’t like something, doesn’t mean many others don’t).
Among them all, there is one line of products that has been consistent throughout the years, Uppercut. While they have a few products we are not fans of, there are several in their line that are staples and I couldn’t imagine not having on hand.
Featherweight has been my go to hair product for years. For someone with hair that is difficult to style, someone who has nasty cowlicks, thick unruly hair that doesn’t stay in place, a nickel sized amount of this miracle goo will hold it all. It has a light citrus scent that is not overpowering, but just enough to notice as you apply. It can also be mixed (50/50) with their traditional deluxe pomade, for someone who wants to add a little extra hold without necessarily needing featherweights full power.
Suggestions for use:
Make sure you are washing your hair in the morning. Bed head is difficult to tame and by washing your hair in the am, you are able to give your hair a reset.
Apply when hair is slightly damp. Not wet, as too much water will drown out the product and require you to use much more than needed. Not dry, as this is a very tacky hair product and will be difficult to disperse through your hair and even more difficult to style.
Be sure to properly close the tin after use or it will dry out. You should get many uses out of one tin, don’t let it go to waste by leaving it open and susceptible to this.
Also it is important to note, while this is a water based product, I have been told that it can sometimes be difficult to wash out of the hair. If you experience this- Uppercut does offer a product that will ensure a thorough wash. One of my clients told me it works best if you apply before getting in the shower and working it through your hair before you shampoo.
Some of our other favorite Uppercut products include: Uppercut Deluxe Pomade, Easy Hold and Matte Pomade. We will discuss the best hair types and uses for these in future blogs. However, if you have difficult to style or problem hair- Uppercuts Featherweight is a must have for your hair arsenal.
